Poe was born in 1809 and shortly after lost his mother in 1811. A normal child, he went through various educations including the University of Virginia. After relocating to Boston, MA, he began publishing his poetry and his creativity could not be tamed any longer. Despite being sent to West Point Military academy by his foster father, Poe was inspired by the Romantic movement and continued on to publish a book full of poems. It was after this that he became married to his cousin, who was thirteen years old at the time, Virginia Clemm. From then on Poe moved around from various editorial jobs, published his only full-length novel, and began dabbling in horror stories and supernatural ideas. Poe is most known for his poem "The Raven" which gained him national publicity in 1845. Poe quickly gained a reputation for stories that were filled with morbidity and qualities that could only make sense as a dream. Many people attributed the content of his stories and poems to the condition of is mental state, which no one but Poe could really understand. Edgar Allan Poe died 1849 after a drinking binge. Poe may have died in 1849, but his name would continue through the reputations and uniqueness of his work.
